Arrangers’ Guild Meeting – October 18, 2022

The Arrangers’ Guild met on October 18, 2022, for their first class of 6 units. Our first class was entitled vertical design, demonstrating the crescent and asymmetrical design.

At 10:00 a.m., Linda Hensler, Director, called the meeting to order.

Linda wanted to thank Dee Cocchiola, who volunteered to help Linda whenever needed with our meetings.

Linda introduced our Class Instructor, Margaret Kirkpatrick.

Margaret gave a short history of how classes in floral design started with Bob Thomas and classes continues today. Each of us has a new world of creativity to discover eventually. We need to take as many classes as possible to practice the Principles of Element, Design, and Creativity.

For Traditional Design, you start with the smallest flowers at the top (usually 3) for a straight-line design, then gradation moving down to the base. You could also add clusters of flowers if you prefer.

After a short break, the students got to make their own creations. Margaret Kirkpatrick critiqued each one and was very impressed with how well our first-time students made their designs. Great job to all!

Our class 2 and meeting will be on November 15, 2022.

November 2022 Selection of the Month

Elena and Viktor Zadorozhny of Eric Drive have been recognized as November 2022 Selection of the Month by The Garden Club at Palm Coast.

Elena and Viktor lived in New York for 20 years before retiring and moving to Palm Coast.

This very diverse landscape along with its terra cotta roof, driveway, and all the garden edging displays curb appeal. The driveway is unique with a spade-shaped grass island that showcases a Queen palm.

Visitors are greeted at the front entrance with the fragrant white flowers of bridal bouquet frangipani (plumeria) and magenta and white flowering bougainvillea. Color abounds with large Petra crotons, Hawaiian Ti, dwarf bottlebrush, bush daisy, pink penta, dusty miller, and other perennials.

The left side garden has a tall multi-colored metal art spinner and a large coquina rock surrounded by many plants such as catharanthus roses (periwinkle), five-night blooming jasmine, agapanthus, bush daisy, bird of paradise, plumbago, and a small Chinese windmill palm.

The pool area has a beautiful white marble Mermaid fountain with a background of tri-color ginger, gladiolas, peace lily, split leaf philodendron, and a red desert rose.
The very deep lot contains many edged gardens of various plants as well as sweet bay laurel, loquat, Valencia orange tree, sago palm and a Norfolk Island pine.

This landscape has so much color, diversity, and beauty it truly deserves the “Selection of the Month” recognition!

Arrangers’ Guild Meeting – September 20, 2022

The Arrangers Guild had their first meeting on September 20, 2022. Linda Hensler, Director, called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

New members were welcomed to the Guild. Our first meeting was an informative meeting only.
Members were asked to pay their membership dues of $15.00 and make out checks to The Arrangers Guild.
Linda Hensler handed out binders to our new members along with several handouts for all members to put inside their binders including what materials/supplies needed for each class.
Linda Hensler reminded everyone to bring their binders at each meeting/class as instructors will use materials handed out.

Starting with the October 18th meeting, we will start 6 units of classes on Floral Design Study. When we have instructors teaching the class members are asked to pay a one-time fee of $35 which includes all 6 classes.

Linda Hensler announced we may have a Flower Show in 2023, however, this is still in the planning stage.

Sue Bara was thanked for opening her store so members can purchase items and needed supplies for future classes. Sue will have more items available at the next meeting.

Dee Cocchiola has volunteered to be Linda Hensler’s assistant to help Linda when needed.

Our next meeting and first class will be on October 18, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. so members have time to set up and the training instructor will start at 10:00 a.m. A reminder meeting email will be sent soon with a list of supplies needed for members to bring for class Unit 1. Light refreshments will be available.

Meeting adjourned at 11:40 a.m.
