Garden Revamp Day at the Historical Society

On Saturday morning, April 25, 2026 a group from different walks of life got together at the Palm Coast Historical Society to refurbish the Museum bed in front of the building, where the turtle #7 Garfield sits, due to winter damage to the plants. When I first talked with Peter Johnson at the Historical Society he said he wanted something that needed little maintenance. I suggested Florida native plants due to their easy care and more likely to survive a winter we had this year. He embraced the idea and we met with Celena at Kraken Ventures (native garden plants) to get her suggestions. She drew up a wonderful plan using such plants like Stokes Aster and Black-Eyed Susan.

On Saturday Celena arrived with the plants and placed them in the bed, so people knew where to dig. We had volunteers from the Jr. Garden Club and a family from our Seeds of the Future family event nights shared with Home Depot, friends and family of Peter Johnson and garden club members.

It was fun digging in the dirt with so many people who care about their community. We had doughnuts and lemonade after which gave us more time to chat.

It was such a joy to help bring this project together, Thanks to all the volunteers for their energy, good conversation and fun,

Margie Brady
