Bob Smith and Brigitte Love of Ellsworth Drive

Bob and Brigitte retired from Kentucky and moved to Palm Coast 6 years ago to be near their daughter in Daytona. Brigitte is originally from Germany.

Bob’s stepbrother, Jim Stonebreaker, a designer for Tiffany Studios in New York City, made them a unique male Mermaid plaque made of cast stone that hangs near the front door.

The front entryway is very colorful with pots of red and pink begonias, Mezoo trailing red sunrose or ice plant, and several types of ferns. A beautiful Crossandra called Orange Marmalade brightens the area with its vibrant orange flowers. A medal tricycle is potted with blue daze. Other pots are filled with red geraniums, pink and white vinca, foxtail fern, plumeria, firecracker plants, and Joseph’s coat (Alternanthera). It is hard to believe all of these plants are thriving in this cool weather.

The garage is flanked by spiral cedar topiaries. The front center bed has a pineapple palm with a large decorative coquina rock. The landscaping in the front of the house is also diverse with plants such as: agave, crotons, caladium, white crinum lily, yellow cassia, bougainvillea, aloe, roses, red and variegated ginger, star jasmine, a lemon tree, and crape myrtle.

The back yard has fire spike, princess flower, snowbush, ferns, Arabian jasmine, salvias, Clerodendrum pagoda plants, and pink honeysuckle. The pool lanai area is decorated with queen of the night cactus, begonias, foxtail fern, calla lily, zebra plant (Calathea), orchids, coreopsis, snake plant, a bonsai money tree (Pachira Aquatica,) and several varieties of crotons.

You can tell the owners love plants and color by the diversity in their landscape.
