Field Trip Green Heritage Nursery

On May 14, 2025, several members from The Garden Club at Palm Coast went on a field trip to visit a new nursery called Green Heritage Nursery located at 22 Bimini Ln., Bunnell, Fl 32110.

They were having a Sip and Sample from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. where you could sample spices and sip a free glass of wine and shop their plant sale with 10% off any plant purchase!

The owner gave us a little history of Green Heritage, see below:

Thank you for coming to our Sip and Sample. So glad you all came out.  As per our newsletter, the property was purchased in July of 2024 on land that was once a nursery so you will still find trees fully grown out of their old pots. Began with overgrown weeds and mud.  With collaboration of help including myself Stephen Maxcy designed and built what is now Green Heritage Nursery.  Designing and building water features and winding pathways specific to what the plants need are regarding sun or shade.  Came up with the idea of a gift shop that exclusively features only local arts and crafts for customers to browse though. We have many events for people to come and enjoy such as a ladies’ night and planting together arrangements for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Butterfly lovers and building your own veggie garden.  Created in the span of 9 months we have created a garden center for everyone.  Everyone that visits us always has a great time including all the children playing in our sandbox., Our take-a-book leave-a-book and our sodas and ice cream. We also have very nice chickens you are welcome to pet and feed. We are dog friendly.  Everyone is welcome.

Steven Maxcy

Impressions of the Garden Club at Palm Coast Picnic 2025

The weather was miserable, as was predicted. Fortunately we met under a large canopy keeping the people and the picnic dry. Despite the weather the members of the Garden Club enjoyed a great event.

Here are some impressions of the fun.

Preparations, final touches.

Lots of food for the hungry club members

Goodie bags for the many workers in the club.

The early birds are in anticipation of what is going to be presented

The recipients of the scholarships and their family members are being presented by Kenetha Kilmurray

The President listed the open positions in the Garden Club. The success of the club depends on many functions being operational. Join the team for a splendid new season.

The buffet is open.

Mmmmmmm………..

What is for dessert? That is too beautiful to eat.

Two new Distinguished Club Members: Linda Hensler presented by Jane Howells and Nancy Iandoli presented by Jane Villa-Lobos.

Also in attendance were a number of  recipients of scholarships issued by the club.  Several of the students told us about their studies and impressive achievements.

One of the proud mothers spoke about her daughter’s work and ambitions. The daughter could not come to the picnic because of exams.

The scholarships were not presented at the picnic. They had been delivered to the student’s homes, prior to the picnic.

Goodies time for the busy bees in the club.

The winners of the 50-50 lottery and the raffle were drawn.

Three African Violets found 3 new owners and the club photographer won a certificate

Then the new board members were presented and sworn in.

Finally the pins for 10 or more membership years were awarded. Linda DuLong got her bar for 20 years, to be attached to her pin.

We can all look back on a successful GCPC picnic 2025.

Garden Club Arbor Day, Memorial Tree Planting 2025

On Friday, May 9th, 2025, the Garden Club at Palm Coast held the Annual Club Arbor Day Ceremony in Linear Park at Palm Coast in cooperation with the City of Palm Coast. This involves a remembrance of club members having passed away in the past year and the planting of a memorial tree.

The GCPC members being remembered were Jeanne O’Donnell and Sue Bara, who passed in 2024, resp. in January and July. Sue has been President of the Club, as well as performing multiple other roles. Jeanne was active in the Arrangers Guild.

Carol Mini, the City of Palm Coast Urban Forester, described the tree that was chosen for this occasion: the American Fringe Tree, Chionanthus virginicus, a native of the Eastern USA.

This year’s tree is planted along St Joe Walkway, just across the bridge behind the Picnic Pavilion.

We then walked to the site of this Memorial Tree, where the plaque with the names of Jeanne and Sue was placed in front of the tree. Reverend Hobbs then blessed the tree to serve as a lasting memory of the two GCPC members. That concluded the ceremony.

Participants were then invited for light refreshments in the Picnic Pavilion.

The ceremony was organized by Marie Fabozzi, Garden Club Arbor Day Chairperson.

The most recent memorial tree along with some previously planted trees can be viewed at Linear Park, located at 31 Greenway Ct, Palm Coast, FL 32137. This is situated in between the two one-directional Palm Coast Parkway roadways, off Colbert Lane. A larger collection of Memorial trees is situated in Central Park, South of City Hall.
