October Selection of the Month

Anita Peale of Colechester Lane has been recognized as October 2021 Selection of the Month by The Garden Club at Palm Coast.

Anita’s husband was in the military and they countries before they settled in New York. While in the military she was a 4th grade teacher and also taught typing to also taught typing to the service men. From New York they retired York they retired and moved to Palm Coast in 2003.

The entrance of her home is graced by a large 3-tier fountain filled with oyster plants and wandering jew along with multiple pots with various succulent arrangements. She is always propagating plants to fill her enormous beds along her driveway as well as all around the house.

Along the right side of the driveway are several “Sentimental” and “Astra Pink” balloon flowers (Platycodon grandifloras) with flower buds shaped like hot air balloons. These blend nicely with other plants in the front including: white, red and pink vincas, plumbagos, many tractor seat plants, and several bleeding heart vines on trellises.

To the left of the driveway are gardens with beautiful bamboo orchids (Arundina graminifolia), firecracker plants, ferns, vincas, and crotons. She also has several large deep blue ceramic pots with aloe vera, bromeliads, colorful caladiums and dianthus. Towards the back are oleanders, Phoenix roebelenii palms, several oyster plants, crinum lilies, hibiscus, marigolds, a holly tree, lavenders and orange canna lilies.

The property is on a saltwater canal. She has landscaped the back with sea grapes, lots of zinnias, salvias, dianthus, begonias, desert rose in a blue pot, schefflera bushes, bromeliads, a multitude of mixed vincas and bleeding heart vines on green lattice trellises.

Anita has planted gardens wherever she has lived. Here in Palm Coast she has selected plants that are not only colorful but are suitable for sun and the salt water environment in Zone 9A.
