October 2019 Yard Selection of the Month

Austin and Jean Young of Felshire Lane have been recognized as October 2019 Garden Selection of the Month by The Garden Club at Palm Coast.

The Youngs are from Jamaica and the family moved to Fort Lauderdale until 2005 when they relocated to Palm Coast. They are both retired but spend most of their time taking care of their beautiful yard and landscape.

They do all the work themselves and must water twice a day in order to keep everything blooming.  They both sit on stools in order to prune their bushes as well as all the weeding. Their walkway and edging on all the islands are terracotta color and with stones in the front beds which looks very colorful.

They have a variety of plants and trees in their front yard such as Phoenix date palm, Queen palm, pink Crape Myrtles, and a Holly tree. In the spring time bright red begonias outline their entire front walkway and continue along the islands on each side of the house. Behind them are nicely shaped Boxwoods and Schillings, colorful Crotons and to the right side 3 beautiful Bird of Paradise and a potted Firecracker plant.

When I was escorted to their back yard and opened the gate my breath was taken away by such beauty and diversity of the colorful mix plants, flowering trees, bushes, and a variety of nice statuary throughout it was like walking into a paradise oasis!

There were red, pink and orange Geraniums, pink, purple and white Penta, yellow and orange Gerbera Daisy, purple Agapanthus (aka Lily of the Nile), blue Delphinium, Bougainvillea, pink and red Crown of Thorns, pink and red Knockout Roses, red Hibiscus, orange Mums, Hawaiian Ti, and several Plumbagos,

They have a large open L-shaped patio area with 2 tables and chairs where you can sit and just take in all this beauty.  I have to admit that I did not want to leave their back yard.  Their beautiful yard has also been selected to be in this year’s The Garden Club at Palm Coast Garden Tour 2019 on October 19.
