Propagation Guild Visits Leu Gardens

On January 2nd the Propagation Guild went on an excursion to Leu Gardens in Orlando. Thirteen members saw this as an excellent kick-off of the New Year 2019. Jane organized the trip and also acted as our expert tour guide.

In addition to many “must have” plants and shrubs the garden enthusiast can also collect a lot of landscaping ideas.

When viewing the photos one can still hear the ooohs and aaaahs.

Leu Gardens is also home to one of the largest Camellia collections in the country. The foundation of this collection are the varieties of Camellia japonica and Camellia sasanqua originally planted by Mr. Leu. Today, more than 2000 plants and 230+ cultivars are displayed throughout the gardens.

This collection ranks among the largest in the United States and is one of the largest documented collections in the Southeast.

Camellias display their flowers between October  and April.  Now is a good time to admire their blooms in a variety of colors from white to pink to red.

Currently Leu Gardens also hosts an exhibition of frog sculptures, entitled Ribbit The Exhibit II. The sculptures are on display between November 1, 2018 and January 31, 2019.

The Propagators were very keen on being photographed with the green creatures.
