Grapes & Gardens: A Muscadine Field Day for Homeowners

August 13 at 10:00 am

UF/IFAS Extension agents and specialists will host “Grapes & Gardens: A Muscadine Field Day for Homeowners” at Ever After Farms in Pomona Park. This hands‑on event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is designed for homeowners and garden enthusiasts who want to learn how to grow muscadine grapes in Florida’s challenging climate. Attendees will receive practical instruction on planting, trellising, irrigation and fertilization, pest management, and Florida‑Friendly landscaping practices.

Highlights include step‑by‑step demonstrations for starting and caring for muscadine vines, tips for managing common vineyard pests and diseases, and an introduction to recommended varieties such as Southern Home, Delicious and Welder. Featured speakers—Dr. Ali Sarkhosh, Julio Perez, Judy Jean, Terra Freeman and Ryan Bjelke—will discuss their specialties. There’s also a cooking demonstration with muscadine recipes and tasting samples, plus an optional U‑Pick harvest where participants can try picking grapes themselves.

Two ticket options are available: $20 General Admission for full event access, or the $30 Grapevine Ticket, which includes a one-gallon muscadine vine to take home. Space is limited, and parts of the event are outdoors—so wear closed-toe shoes and bring a hat. Visit Grapes-in-the-Garden-Field-Day.eventbrite.com to register.
