June 2018 Yard Selection of the Month

Elsie L. Matthews of Pickering Drive has been recognized as June 2018 Selection of the Month by The Garden Club at Palm Coast.  Ms. Matthews was born in Ocala Florida in a family of 14 children.  She worked very hard and retired from the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services then moved to Palm Coast in March of 2012.

When she purchased her home she knew it needed much landscaping in order to make it her own, therefore, developed a plan which included removing grass and relocating shrubs to other areas of the yard.  In front of the house she has stepping stones that lead to a bench to enjoy a colorful garden of Azaleas, Tiger Fern, Midnight Jasmine, red and white Geraniums, Shasta Daisies, Chrysanthemums and two beautiful Yesterday Today Tomorrow bushes that have multiple blooms of dark purple, lilac and white flowers.

Front door area has a potted Norfolk Island Pine Tree and beautiful red Geraniums.  She also has planted red and white Poinsettias that bloom at Christmas time.

There is an island along the driveway which has several varieties of beautiful Amaryllis, Angel Trumpets, Firecrackers, Mexican Heather, Hibiscus, Sweet Potato Vine, Marigolds, Zinnias, Caladium bulbs, Lantanas, Salvias, Dusty Miller and a beautiful Rose Bush.

Back yard has a vegetable garden with collard greens, tomatoes, snap peas, carrots, chives, basil, parsley, large rosemary and large thyme.  There are fruit trees of lime, temple oranges, Kumquat, lemon, figs, peaches and 2 guavas. There is also a Crepe Myrtle and Crotons.

A well thought out plan for a very colorful yard to start the warm season ahead!
